‘Acupuncture Normalizes Dysfunction of Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian Axis‘

The article summarizes the studies of Electroacupuncture (EA) in the regulation of the abnormal function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis (HPOA) in the laboratory. Clinical observation showed EA with effective acupoints could cure some anovulatory patients in a highly effective rate, and ...results suggested EA might regulate the dysfunction of HPOA in several ways ...influence .. normalizing secretion of some hormones, such as GnRH, LH, and E2.

Safety and effectiveness of Acupuncture treatment in early Pregnancy

Research involving 596 women confirmed the benefits of acupuncture by concluding that acupuncture for nausea and dry retching was a safe and effective treatment during early pregnancy.

Moxibustion for Breech presentation

In primigravidas at 33 weeks gestation with breech presentation, moxibustion treatment for one to two weeks ...increased foetal activity during the treatment period and cephalic presentation at 35weeks and at delivery.
No adverse effects (such as intrauterine death or placental detachment) were noted.

Effect of acupuncture on sperm parameters of males suffering from sub fertility related to low sperm quality.

Silterman S, Eltes F, Wolfson V, Zabludovsky N, Vartoov B, Institute of Chinese Medicine, Tel Aviv, Israel. Archives of Andrology, 1997 Sept-Oct; 39(2):155-61. Reported that after 5 weeks of twice weekly treatment, men with considerable sperm imparement had increased their fertility significantly. Improvements were seen in total functional sperm, percentage of viability, total mobile spermatozoa and integrity of the axonema. This study confirms that acupuncture can significantly improve sperm motility.

Substitution of Acupuncture for HCG in Ovulation Induction

A study published in the 2nd quarter 1997 issue of the Journal of TCM by Cai Xuefen of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Hospital, Zhejiang Medical University, Zhejiang Province 310006, found that " ... acupuncture is effective in ovulation induction and also in the remission of OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome) induced by HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin)".

Harvard Medical School specialists have implicated stress, along with depression, in ovulation Irregularities. A study of women undergoing IVF showed that it appeared to be those who exhibited lower levels of measurable physiological stress had a higher chance of success.

Reviewed in an article by Dr. Muiris Houston in the Irish Times Health Supplement. These clinical trials involved 340 outpatient practices & included 1,162 patients with a history of low back pain lasting an average of 8 yrs.
Result: ' Almost twice as many patients responded to acupuncture versus the conventional therapy', Dr. Heinz G. Endres, M.D., of Ruhr-University Bochum and colleagues reported in the Sept. 24 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.

'Acupuncture provides added benefit for people with Osteoarthritis of the Knee'
Study over 4 yrs by University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine.
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine have found that Acupuncture significantly reduces pain and improves function for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee who have moderate or severe pain despite taking pain medication.
